MISD Students, Parents, Staff and School Community, Our school community is ecstatic with the announcement from the Governor's office authorizing the re-entry of our students for in-person learning K-12. After an extensive review of the tool-kit that outlines procedures for re-entry we have created a short survey that needs to be completed by Wednesday, February 3rd. This will help fine tune a re-entry plan and determine a possible date for our students to return to school. Yours in Leadership and Learning, Lefonso Castillo Please click on the link below to complete the survey. ***Fill out one survey for each child enrolled at MISD Grades K-12.** https://forms.gle/t3tcTKCtC5UK9oHZ9

We had a minor electrical fire in a classroom. A light ballast was the cause of the fire. The fire is contained and all students are safe. Students have been relocated to the middle school until clearance is given by the fire department. All students are safe, there is not a need for parents to pick up students at this time.

January 28, 2021 Mora Independent School District Students and Parents: First, let us thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a nation and community, responded to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19 last March that shut down our in-person learning. We are very proud of the way our MISD students, parents, employees, and community leaders handled the demands we were faced with to protect everyone as we continued to educate and feed our students during the most unusual of circumstances. As you are aware, Governor Grisham has authorized middle and high schools to re-open for in-person leaning as early as February 8th. Please note that the school district did not receive notice of re-entry prior to the Governor’s address. Our desire is to return to school as normal (traditional) with enhanced safety and cleaning procedures. Our elementary school will begin to re-open further and more information will be distributed by the elementary in the near future. The New Mexico Public Education Department has forwarded each school district expanded guidelines for in-person learning. Plans are being developed for re-entry and we will notify our community of the opening date as soon as we receive our site inspection and approval by NMPED. We will be gathering input from our school community which includes parents, employees, community stakeholders, medical professionals and our administrators via surveys which will be sent out in the near future. It is more important than ever that each and every parent submit a survey for each child so we can get an accurate count of students who wish to return to in-person learning. This will determine which Hybrid-Learning Option we need to utilize when we re-open. Please note that each student has the option to return to in-person learning or remain in the remote-learning setting. Thank you again for all you are doing to help your children learn, connect with their teachers, and continue important daily routines. If you have any question for us not addressed here, you may contact us. New Ranger/Rangerette court coming soon! In the past, the high school gym floor has swelled, causing rifts in the floor. After having dealt with this issue for several years, we were able to work with our insurance company to repair the floor. We can’t wait to have our athletes back on the court!

Mora Community, We have made it through a very trying year, we have witnessed deep divisions form in our country and state and have dealt with hardships both personal and professional. We also know that not all learning occurs at school. With that in mind, I want the students of Mora Independent Schools to have a snow day to watch history unfold, celebrate your family, and reflect on how we can come together and create a better community for all of us. It is not a day off, it is an opportunity for you to reflect on what is truly important. I would like our students to watch historical events, build a snowman, or simply appreciate the day and recharge. Teachers, you are appreciated, your principal will provide you with a meeting link for a district wide staff meeting. Sincerely, Marvin MacAuley Superintendent
