August 3, 2021 Dear School Community, Mora Independent Schools will be instituting a mask requirement for all regardless of vaccination status. Masks will be required for all while indoors. While outdoors, masks will be optional. We are imposing this mandate to allow us to focus on learning and minimize the disruptions of policing vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated and prevent divisions within the school community. Our mask mandate is in line with the most recent CDC guidelines, should the NMPED and NM DOH require masks for all as we anticipate, we will be in a position where we are already following the mandates, minimizing learning disruptions. Learning is our focus, not politics and trying to follow moving targets in terms of face mask usage. For athletics, we will follow NMAA guidelines for athletes. We know that masks are uncomfortable and take some time to get used to, but we have been in this position before. Safety is very important to us and along with our mask mandate, MERVE 13 filtration, air purification devices, and social distancing as recommended by NM DOH and NM PED, we are in position to have the safest in-person student experience as possible. We are all in this together and we do want our students to be safe in school. While on our campus, please mask up and take care of yourself. Thank you Marvin MacAuley Superintendent
