Mora Independent School District is closely monitoring the ongoing rainfall and potential for flooding across Mora County, including our school bus routes. We remain in close communication with local authorities.

The National Weather Service is forecasting continued periods of rain and thunderstorms through Wednesday, with saturated ground, possible flash flooding, elevated rivers and streams, and hazardous conditions at low-water crossings. Recent rainfall and the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon burn scar further increase the potential for runoff and flooding in our area.

Our greatest concern at this juncture is Wednesday (9/30/26) morning travel. District leadership will continue monitoring rainfall totals, road and bus-route conditions, low-water crossings, waterways, and any Flash Flood Warnings overnight and early Wednesday morning. Wind and saturated soils may also create hazards from downed trees or debris.

The District Leadership Team will conduct weather and road-condition reviews around 8:00 p.m. tonight and again between 4:00–5:00 a.m. Wednesday before making decisions regarding school operations for Wednesday, September 30.

As a proactive measure, Chromebooks are being sent home with students, and teachers will communicate via their respective class apps and/or post assignments on Google classroom if and when a decision is made with respect to in-person or online learning.  No decisions have been made.

The safety of our students, families, and staff remains our highest priority. Please use caution when traveling, never attempt to drive through running or standing water, and monitor the Mora ISD website and official communications for any updates regarding Wednesday's school schedule.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we closely monitor these conditions.
