August 3, 2021 Dear School Community, Mora Independent Schools will be instituting a mask requirement for all regardless of vaccination status. Masks will be required for all while indoors. While outdoors, masks will be optional. We are imposing this mandate to allow us to focus on learning and minimize the disruptions of policing vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated and prevent divisions within the school community. Our mask mandate is in line with the most recent CDC guidelines, should the NMPED and NM DOH require masks for all as we anticipate, we will be in a position where we are already following the mandates, minimizing learning disruptions. Learning is our focus, not politics and trying to follow moving targets in terms of face mask usage. For athletics, we will follow NMAA guidelines for athletes. We know that masks are uncomfortable and take some time to get used to, but we have been in this position before. Safety is very important to us and along with our mask mandate, MERVE 13 filtration, air purification devices, and social distancing as recommended by NM DOH and NM PED, we are in position to have the safest in-person student experience as possible. We are all in this together and we do want our students to be safe in school. While on our campus, please mask up and take care of yourself. Thank you Marvin MacAuley Superintendent

Mora/Holman Elementary Parents,  Hope this communication finds you well! Recently, Governor Grisham and NMPED has allowed New Mexico public school to reopen 100% for in-person learning.  Since that plan has come out Mora Independent Schools have been busy working on our reopening plan that reflects NMPED’s guidance, along with the NMDOH and CDC safety protocols. Knowing that students need to be in school for academic, social and emotional growth the Mora/Holman Elementary has decided on the following. Mora/Holman Elementary will move from hybrid to complete re-opening on April 6th, the changes from hybrid to complete re-opening are as followed. • Return to school is recommended but not mandatory, parents who have chosen to keep their students’ home will still be provided remote instruction. • Students on campus will be given priority during class instruction being that teachers will be providing instruction to students in-person. • All students will remain with their current teacher and schedule, but the number of students allowed in each class has gone from 50% to 100%. • Kindergarten will be transported back to Holman starting April 6th. • Pre-K for Holman Elementary will return on April 6th. • Students will remain on a Monday-Thursday schedule with Friday being used as office hours and a deep cleaning day. • Six-foot social distancing will be adhered to when allowable based on PED and CDC guidelines. • Facemasks must still be worn at all times. If you need additional information to help guide your decision as to whether you will be sending your child(ren) back to school for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, here is a link to the state’s website:  https://webnew.ped.state.nm.us/reentry-district-and-school-guidance/. If you plan on sending your child back to school, please contact Mora/Holman Elementary at (575)387-3132. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through the many aspects of transitioning students back during this time safely. Our school district prides itself on safety. All NMPED, NMDOH, NMAA and CDC guidelines are always enforced and adhered to. Thanks, Mr. Maldonado Mora/Holman Principal

PRESS RELEASE February 24, 2021 P-EBT food benefits for 246,000 New Mexico children to be extended for school year 2020-2021 SANTA FE – New Mexico’s Human Services Department and Public Education Department partner to issue another round of Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) to students who qualify for free or reduced meal program and who continue remote or hybrid learning model for the 2020-2021 school year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture allocated more than $27 million monthly in additional benefits for New Mexico – enough to feed more than 246,000 vulnerable children each month. “These very important benefits will continue to provide nutritional assistance to New Mexico families”, said Human Services Department Deputy Secretary, Angela Medrano. Eligibility for the P-EBT program is determined by the New Mexico Public Education Department, which shares student information with the Human Services Department to issue benefits through P-EBT cards. The P-EBT program applies to all eligible students regardless of their family’s SNAP eligibility. February 21, 2021 MISD School Community, On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, during the MISD Board Meeting, it was decided that all our school sites will re-open for in-person learning. We would like to thank all our staff and community members that attended the recent board meeting. Mora High School will re-open in a hybrid model on February 23, 2021 for Juniors and Seniors and February 24, 2021 for Freshmen and Sophomores. Lazaro Garcia Middle School and Mora/Holman Elementary will reopen on March 15, 2021. There will be an orientation for high school staff on February 22; therefore, there will no “live” classes on that day (high school only). Please use that day to make up any missing or late assignments as the we are near the end of the 3rd nine-weeks. A survey was sent out earlier this month and parents had the option to allow their children to attend school via the hybrid model or to choose to keep their children in a remote setting for the remainder of the school year, if they felt it is a better option. Due to NMPED requirements, in-person learning will look different this year. If you requested that your children attend school via the hybrid model you will be receiving correspondence on policy and procedures. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the office at 575-387-3123. Thank you, Lefonso Castillo, Principal

January 28, 2021 Mora Independent School District Students and Parents: First, let us thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a nation and community, responded to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19 last March that shut down our in-person learning. We are very proud of the way our MISD students, parents, employees, and community leaders handled the demands we were faced with to protect everyone as we continued to educate and feed our students during the most unusual of circumstances. As you are aware, Governor Grisham has authorized middle and high schools to re-open for in-person leaning as early as February 8th. Please note that the school district did not receive notice of re-entry prior to the Governor’s address. Our desire is to return to school as normal (traditional) with enhanced safety and cleaning procedures. Our elementary school will begin to re-open further and more information will be distributed by the elementary in the near future. The New Mexico Public Education Department has forwarded each school district expanded guidelines for in-person learning. Plans are being developed for re-entry and we will notify our community of the opening date as soon as we receive our site inspection and approval by NMPED. We will be gathering input from our school community which includes parents, employees, community stakeholders, medical professionals and our administrators via surveys which will be sent out in the near future. It is more important than ever that each and every parent submit a survey for each child so we can get an accurate count of students who wish to return to in-person learning. This will determine which Hybrid-Learning Option we need to utilize when we re-open. Please note that each student has the option to return to in-person learning or remain in the remote-learning setting. Thank you again for all you are doing to help your children learn, connect with their teachers, and continue important daily routines. If you have any question for us not addressed here, you may contact us. Mora Community, We have made it through a very trying year, we have witnessed deep divisions form in our country and state and have dealt with hardships both personal and professional. We also know that not all learning occurs at school. With that in mind, I want the students of Mora Independent Schools to have a snow day to watch history unfold, celebrate your family, and reflect on how we can come together and create a better community for all of us. It is not a day off, it is an opportunity for you to reflect on what is truly important. I would like our students to watch historical events, build a snowman, or simply appreciate the day and recharge. Teachers, you are appreciated, your principal will provide you with a meeting link for a district wide staff meeting. Sincerely, Marvin MacAuley Superintendent

Dear Community, I wanted to give you some information about our current status and the prospect of moving back into the hybrid model for the elementary school. Last night, the School Board decided to return back into hybrid learning on January 18th for the elementary school as allowed by NM PED and following established re-entry guidelines provided to us from NM PED. The School Board did allow flexibility and has allowed that the start date be fluid dependent on infection rates within our School District. This means if infection rates are high, we do not have to start hybrid learning on the 18th we can wait until infection rates decrease. In preparation for directly servicing students, we are required to complete surveillance testing for 10% of all staff who potentially may be in contact students for a two week period. In addition we have installed required MERV-13 air filtration and also have HEPA air purifiers for additional safety measures for our students and staff. All safety protocols will be followed should we return to the hybrid learning model. We still do not have a start date for middle school or high school, the start date has to come from the NM PED. Stay safe! Marvin MacAuley

With this new schedule your child(ren) will have an allotted time to begin and hopefully complete their homework in class. As we all know there are many families that are affected by the uncertainty of the Luna Fire. As a staff, we understand that some of our students may not be able to log onto their classes at this time. If you are one of these students please call the office so we can make arrangements for your classes. Thank you, parents, for your continued support during this time. If you any questions, please feel free to contact me via 575-387-3123 or my cell at 505-603-6454. Please visit our school site web pages for more information. Due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, we have suspended in person learning until a tentative date of January 18th, of course this is contingent on the pandemic situation. If cases decrease there is a potential of bringing in students earlier. The return of all students is dependent upon New Mexico Health Orders. Please contact your building principals if you have any questions.

Attention parents of students at Lazaro Garcia Middle School and Mora High School students. New Mexico Public Education Department has mandated that all Middle and High Schools in New Mexico implement a distance learning program consisting of recorded video instruction, live sessions and independent work to keep students engaged in learning. As the end of the first 9-weeks nears, we are requesting that you complete the following survey in regards to their learning experiences during the first 45 days of school. These surveys are anonymous, so we will not know who has participated. Our sole purpose is to document how well distance-learning is working in our schools and identify ways to make it work better. If you have any questions feel free to contact the office at 575-387-3122 or 575-387-3123 Thank you, in advance, for sharing your thoughts and questions over these past couple of months and for your flexibility to positively approach another unprecedented nine-week period. Important Information regarding Pandemic EBT: • As of today October 1st per USDA and end of the federal fiscal year, the PED and HSD can NO longer can issue any new P-EBT or accept new data from schools or districts to distribute P-EBT for any phases. There are no more federal funds available for P-EBT at this time. • Keep in mind the last day we gave to get data to the PED was September 18th. This was due to the tight time frame we had to get the P-EBT out to students and families. • This applies to the first and second round of P-EBT issuance. • HSD is in the process of issuing the remainder of the second round of P-EBT cards for new students and student on SNAP and regular EBT on or by October 22nd (approximately 72k families, and affect 92k students). Families need to be patient and wait for them to be mailed and received. The second round will not be added to existing EBT cards. • Moving forward the PED and HSD can only do address changes for benefits that were issued in both phases per USDA. • We do not know if there are going to be future P-EBT issuances please let families know to save their existing P-EBT cards. • Schools and Districts need to continue to ensure that your student data and addresses are updated, submit, and validated valid in STARS or to the PED. Contact numbers: HSD Hotline- 1-800-283-4465 PED Hotline- 1-505-660-4822 FIS number- 1-800-843-8303 (card replacements) Note: The HSD and the PED are working on getting a consolidated 1800 number. An additional 200 chromebooks was ordered as soon as we received budget authorityof our CARES Act funding earlier this summer. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a nation wide shortage of chromebooks as most schools moved into a virtual environment. We made the decision to limit our existing chromebooks (89) to one per household in order to maximize the number of families that can receive the devices. Once we receive our shipment of chromebooks, we will distribute them to families that request them. We know this is a difficult time for everybody, please contact your principals if you need additional support for turning in work, obtaining materials etc. We are in this together, and hopefully sooner than later we can return to school in person. We certainly miss our students.

July 15, 2020 Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members, As you are all aware, the pandemic has greatly changed our lives and the way we do things, sometimes this change occurs frequently and suddenly. Based on the increasing positive cases of COVID-19 and potential for exposure and infection, Mora Independent Schools will be starting the school year in a 100% distance learning environment starting on August 13th until at least September 3rd. An evaluation of circumstances prior to that date will determine if we will still be on a distance learning model for a longer period of time pending current health orders from the Governor. We made this decision to protect our students, staff, and community. We have taken feedback from all of our stakeholders in regard to the last school shutdown and we have developed a comprehensive plan for distance learning that simplifies the process, has enhanced parental and student support, and is customizable for our students. Several training sessions for parents will be made available prior to school starting. Meals will be delivered in a similar fashion as we did during the last closure period. We are also working with our partners at La Jicarita Telcom to provide internet for students. Additional devices are available for families that need those devices. We are committed to providing the best service to our students and community. Additional information for families on registration etc. will be provided as soon as possible. We truly understand difficulties we all face during school closures, but we are committed to the safety of our students and families. If you have questions, please feel free to contact my office. Sincerely Marvin MacAuley Superintendent
